My great cultural Odyssey of the last week, aside from visiting Claus and Bernd and eating Claus' Kochkäse, was going to see Margaret Atwood, Jeanette Winterson and a Comparative Religion prof called Karen Armstrong at the Göttingen Literary Festival. The subject of the speaker meeting was to be 'Mythology', although there was no indication forehand about what aspect of mythology the women would be speaking. Nonetheless I still went to the Altes Ratnaus amid fanboy dreams that I would ask the perfect question which would ultimately lead to my being taken on as amanuensis, factotum and wondrous literary assistant for life of, well, I have no pride...

Jeanette Winterson and Margaret Atwood have recently completed books based upon aspects of mythology which meant something to them, having taken up the challenge. These books are 'Weight', from JW and 'The Penelopiad' from MA from both of which we had readings.

I didn't manage to ask any questions nor did I brave the queues to get books signed, but It was a fantastic evening and I now want more!
